Mexico flu outbreak scares off tourists; economy hit
The flu scare will weigh heavily on Mexico's economy, which is already in recession because the U.S. economic crisis has led to a collapse in demand for Mexican exports. Tourism accounts for about 8 percent of Mexico's economic output.
Several countries have issued travel alerts to Mexico, and some flights out were reported to be overbooked.
"They are really rushing to get out," said Alexander Kittler, 32, a flight attendant for Lufthansa who was between flights in Mexico City.
Some of his colleagues bought supplies of food and water as they arrived at Mexico City's airport before holing up in their hotels until they could leave. One said she planned to wear surgical gloves on the flight back.
The United States, Canada and the European Union have advised against nonessential travel to Mexico, and Cuba has suspended all flights to and from the country.

Mexico swine flu outbreak may deepen economic decline
Any long-term closure of workplaces would hurt production and might endanger the health of companies, said Centeno, the Mexico City-based economist.
"Right now the effect is on the demand side," Centeno said. "Closing workplaces could affect supply."
Raul Sanchez, a 49-year-old taxi driver in Mexico City, said business has dropped by half since April 24, when the government first shut schools.
"People don't even want to leave their houses," he said. "It was bad enough with the economic situation, and now it's even worse."
Carlos Martinez, 25, a cashier at a Farmacia del Ahorro in Mexico City's Condesa neighborhood, said the store was having a hard time keeping face masks in stock. He sells out of a shipment of 1,000 to 1,500 masks within 2 hours.
Martinez said he was worried about contracting the flu because he was coming in contact with so many people looking for masks or medicine.
"There's no doubt it will reduce economic activity, but how severe we don't know yet," Carstens told reporters yesterday. "If it's resolved in matter of days, the impact will not be significant."

Increasing Economic Woes.
Mexico is being severely affected by the global economic crisis. Its economy is already struggling as production falls, jobs losses increase, and U.S. demand for Mexican exports such as cars and home appliances plummets. GDP shrank 1.6 percent in the fourth quarter and probably contracted another 4.2 percent in the first three months of this year. The fall in the price of oil has also hurt the Mexican government, which depends on oil giant PEMEX for approximately 40 percent of its operating budget. Mexico's Finance Minister Augustin Carstens warned that there is a "high potential" the swine flu outbreak will damage the economy.

Swine Flu Hurts Mexico's Economy

1. Mexico government have to give a correct and updated information about swine flu for people both in domestic and international.
2. Mexico government should provide the method of protecting swine flu.
3. Launching a new travel campaign in Mexico for persuading people to travel.
4. Control the security and precision of flu scaning departure and arrival.
5. Mexico government must provide budgets to produce medicine for killing swine flu.
6. Build a roadshow for introducing their renovative economy to build a conviction with other countries.
7. Persuading people to consume other goods besides necessary goods for arousing the economy.
Conclusion
What was once one of the noisiest, dirtiest, busiest places in the world, has become strangely sterile - a quiet city, where many people wear masks outdoors, and most don't go out. Since a swine flu came in Mexico city, it become not only a problem of their country but it is a problem of a world also. More than 150 people have died of flu-related causes in Mexico and it is going to transmit to other country that made people be frightened about being ill also. Definitely the fear of people that they may infect, they also fear to do anything even leave their home so it become a problem of economic.
No one dare to come in Mexico because of swine flu. The flight that will be coming to Mexico is cancelled. Other countries call their citizen to come back home and avoid to going there. This one of the problem that Mexico government should be solved as soon as possible, they have to bring back a reliability from every other country by solving and finding a medicine to kill this virus and telling people to confirm that it is already missing. while they are trying to control the swine flu they should provide the way to protect ourselve from the flu by using a mask, washing hand regularly and take care to make a good health. And the important thing giving a clear information about root of this flu, where is come from and updating the progress of threating flu all the time.
when we are ready that we can control the flu, we should bring our economic back from the darkness by launching a new campaign to presuade tourist to travel Mexico like the same. That is a one way to build a reliability but we also have one more way. Government should organize some economy roadshow to build a reliability of investment from other countries to help our economy to grow up as before.
The last one is the part of domestic. Mexican have to build new advertisment or promotion to persuade their people spending money to help economy. However, government has to push their citizen forward with reliability of government that every thing come back to the strong country again.
